Homeschool Staff
Amy Lyen
HotS Group Co-Leader
Amy Lyen has been a
professional teacher in various forums for the last 19
years. She has also taught homeschool co-op classes and been
a regular columnist for a California homeschool newsletter.
As a homeschool mom, Amy has
approached teaching as a facilitator. Her philosophy on what
to teach and how to best present the information has been
eclectic, ranging from unschooling to more formal
instruction, depending on the subject. In any subject area
or unit study, she emphasizes related art, language,
science, and history. Visual presentation through lapbooking
and notebooking are a favored activity whenever possible.
With a desire to use what the
world has offered as its own classroom, travel has
definitely been utilized by the Lyen family. Some favorite
places have been Mount St. Helens National Volcanic
Monument, Alaska and the National Parks of Yellowstone,
Lewis and Clark, Crater Lake, Zion, Grand Canyon, Mesa
Verde, and Yosemite.
Amy is a seasoned "Homeschool on
the Seas" Group Leader, having led our Alaska and Mexican
Riviera cruises in 2008.

Michael Sobbell

Alumni Cruises
Mr. Sobbell has been in the cruise travel field for over 15
years. He has cruised on all of Royal Caribbean’s
Voyager Class and Freedom Class ships, as well as many others, and considers these
ships his second home. Mr. Sobbell strives to personally
attend every Alumni Cruise to ensure the cruise experience
meets every passenger's expectations, as he will on this
Homeschool Learning Cruise.
