Autism Event Staff

Jamie Grover
Autism Group Director
Jamie currently works for the University Center for Developmental Disabilities at California State University – San Bernardino.  Jamie is the programs Project Coordinator and Editor of the centers quarterly publication “The UCDD Voice.”  Jamie has written and published many articles relating to the needs of children on the spectrum and their families.  Jamie is also a parent group counselor and teaches a variety of workshops including, positive parenting techniques, parent communication and wellness, and IEP planning & strategies, to name a few. 

Jamie served as the West Coast Representative for the North Star Foundation, an organization which pairs children with autism and other developmental disabilities to quality trained assistance dogs. Jamie is also a certified North Star dog trainer and was responsible for training and assisting with the placement of several assistance dogs over the last few years, including one with triplets who are all on the autism spectrum.


Giavanni Miglia

Associate Staff Member

Giovanni is currently a student at Mount San Antonio College located in Walnut, California.  He is studying to become an Engineer when he graduates.  Giovanni is hearing impaired and fluent in ASL (American Sign Language) and he is very good with interpreting “home signs”, which is a form of slang ASL often used by children learning sign language. 

Giovanni has worked the last four years at a special needs camp for children of multiple disabilities, including autism.  He has also participated in the last 5 s
ummers as a counselor and advisor for the Lions Wilderness Camp for deaf children.  Giovanni finds working with special needs children very rewarding and he looks forward to continuing it in the years to come.  Giovanni has prior experience with “Autism on the Seas” over the last 1.5 years.
 

Brandon Visyak
Associate Staff Member

This is Brandon's second cruise with Autism on the Seas.  Brandon cruised with us in August with his parents and 18 year old autistic brother.  Brandon has volunteered his services and worked with many children on the autism spectrum at the University Center for Developmental Disabilities, Palm Desert satellite program.  Brandon has prior experience with “Autism on the Seas” over the last year.

Brandon received his Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) license in July of this year and is currently continuing his education to receive his AS degree in Fire Technology.  Brandon is looking forward to following in his fathers foot steps who is the Paramedic Fire Captain for the Emergency Medical Bureau for the county of Riverside who supervises all of the fire departments Paramedic’s & EMT's in one of the most fire prone territories in California.
 

Ryan Wimmer
Associate Staff Member

Ryan is currently a senior at California State University - San Bernardino and has worked just under three years with autistic children and children with special needs.  He is studying to become a special education teacher and looks forward to continuing to expand his knowledge of autism and the various ways to help those on the autism spectrum and other developmental disabilities.

Ryan worked at a summer camp for children with special needs, and has been working for two years at the University Center for Developmental Disabilities as a one on one teacher for children with special needs, chiefly autism.  Ryan is a seasoned veteran with “Autism on the Seas”.
